About studio.x-animo

First established on April Fools’ Day 2009, studio.x-animo is a freelance alter-ego of mine that seeks to marry the aesthetics of brand, graphic and web design with proper execution and good marketing sensibilities, producing end-products that are easy to use, draw the appropriate attention and (most of all) tug at heartstrings.

The word “ex-animo” is Greek for “from the heart”, which is a culmination of work philosophies I developed through my 10 years of working on various design projects; my work is always from the heart, and I also believe corporate identity should never just be about what you sell, but what your product makes people feel. What makes studio.x-animo stand out is the use of marketing philosophies as a basis for the designs I create, ensuring professional identities that garner the right audience for you or your business.

studio.x-animo offers quick and easy solutions (i.e., building on and customising templated designs and open-source web applications) as well as full design packages (ground-up brand designs including website, corporate branding and stationery). I make sure to get to know both your brand and your industry well in order to give you what you want and more.

About me

Winston Tay has been contemplating going freelance for a while now, and recent changes in his life have prompted him to catalyse the decision to start studio.x-animo. He is married to a wonderful woman, and just a day after Christmas, they welcomed baby son named Xander (who is partly responsible for the choice in company name).

Winston has worked as a furniture mover, waiter, bartender, stagehand, construction worker, enlistee soldier, court transcriber, legal executive, web designer, graphic artist, marketing executive, and business development manager. He was also thrown into Thailand for about a year to set up a business in Bangkok, and was abused in the Maldives for a very short period of time (blue waters and swaying palm trees now hold a very different, very dark meaning for me).

Winston likes anything that has any semblance of humour in it, and after 30 years of wondering what the hell he is supposed to do with himself, aspires (finally he aspires to do something) to one day learnt he ability to execute dry wit properly become a humour writer himself, dreaming of one day joining the ranks of Stephen Fry, Robert Rankin, and the late and great Douglas Adams.
